Treblinka was one of the only death camps where the Germans tried to hide what was taking place.  The camp is slightly shaped like a trapezoid, and it had two fences, both inner and outer.  The outer fencing consisted of barbed wire while the inner fence was covered with brush to conceal the camp.  According to survivors, the Nazis covered the mass graves, leveled earth mounds, and ploughed over the sorting and extermination yards.  The camp was made to seem like more like an ordinary farm as the Russians approached.

According to the most modern maps, the camp was separated into three sections: living, death, and recreation.  Survivors say it was extremely hard to see into other sections of the camps.  It was almost impossible for insiders to tell how large and in what shape the camp was.

The only way maps were able to be created was with the help of survivors.
